Christ Has Risen! He Has Rise Indeed!

by John Comer

Toward the dawn of the morning on the first day of the week the two Marys went to the burial place.

The body of Jesus had been placed there in the rock-hewn tomb, and the entrance closed with a stone.

Jesus had said that he would rise on the third day, and both Roman and Jewish officials were concerned that the disciples would steal the body and fake a resurrection. So for three days soldiers were posted to guard the tomb, and the stone which closed it was sealed.

But neither the stone nor the seal nor the military men were a problem for the Lord’s angel who had rolled the stone back and was sitting on it as Mary Magdalene and the other Mary approached the grave.

These two women were the ones who had left home so early in the morning and who first heard the thrilling words of the angel:

“Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay” (Matthew 28:5-6).
