White hair is a crown of glory, the Scriptures insist. But old men and women who are truthful will quickly add that it’s not always all it’s cracked up to be. For with white hair often come arthritis, lumbago, dim eyes, bum knees, faulty ears, worn-out teeth, tender tummies, undependable plumbing—and the doleful list goes on and on. Hopefully the apostle Paul’s estimate is true for most of us, that our inner nature is being renewed day by day during the years when our outer nature is wasting away. If this is so, we’re getting a good deal. Think on these things as you savor this new series of devotional essays from the pen of Senior Editor Gene Shelburne.
