I’ll never forget the first time I made my young children leave the room because the news was coming on. It was a Monday, and it was the day when a former president’s video-taped testimony was being re-broadcast. My children had been at school (thankfully) when it was first broadcast. But I knew that the news would contain many discussions of explicit sexual behaviors, and I knew that the then-President would be exposed on camera for shameful acts. I just didn’t want my children to hear it. I knew I couldn’t shield them completely from all the lurid information about the man who was then “leading” our country, but I could try to protect them some.
Even before that scandal in which we began to hear national
talking heads regularly using explicit phrases for deviant types of sexual
activity on the
How will this ever be changed?
I see only one solution: Our world needs the Lord Jesus.
Jesus called us to be the light of the world and the salt of the earth. We are supposed to have an effect on the world around us. He told us to intentionally spread our influence. Nothing except the gospel of Christ can truly change the direction of our world, and Christians are called to take the gospel to the world. If we don’t, look at the path where we’re headed. Do you want to go there?
To those who love darkness, light is painful.
To a raw world, salt stings. But it also helps heal.
You see, nothing can be fixed until light reveals things as they really are. When you think about it, most medicines and treatments are unpleasant at first.
But Christians must act with courage to be what Christ has called us to be. We must speak up! We must reach out! We are God’s chosen instruments to combat the sin of our world and to bring people to holiness in the Lord of light, Jesus Christ. Let’s assume that responsibility with a sense of honor and dedication.
“Live as children of light”!
