Quietness

by Gene Shelburne

It’s a quiet week, Lord,

in between brouhas about airline subsidies and

            speedbump installations,

a time to catch our breath and focus on the

larger scope of things for the good of our city.

Thank You, Lord, for blessing us with prosperous times

                                                under capable leadership.

                        For new businesses,

                                    for additional jobs,

                                                for increased building,

and for all the people-blessings that come from such

                        growth, we are grateful, Lord.

Bless our leaders, Lord.

Make them smart, so they will understand the issues at hand.

Make them wise, so they will know when to differ and when to agree.

Make them patient, especially with critics who are angry

                                    and uninformed.

Keep them honest, so that their integrity will be reflected

on every level of our city’s administration.

Bless our leaders, Lord, for the good of us all.

May Your Spirit impart sensibleness and sensitivity to all who                                          participate in this meeting today.

Amen.
