The Season

by Gene Shelburne

In the next few minutes, Lord, we’ll zone some property and approve some contracts.

But this week our hearts and minds are elsewhere.

For this is the week when we pause, Lord, to remember that You

                                                became a man.

This is the week when Bethlehem matters more to us than

                                                Amarillo.

When wisemen and shepherds take precedence over mayors

                                                and commissioners and city managers.

It is a week when our own official voices are drowned out

                                                by the voices of angels.

A week when our eyes look up from the messes that

surround us and search the heavens hopefully for a

                                                star.

Thank You, Lord, for the blessedness of this season.

Thank You for the hope and joy the story of Christmas

                                                rekindles in our hearts.

For each of us here, and for all in our city, we seek Your richest

                        blessings during these holy days.

                                                                        We pray through Him

                                                                        whose birth we honor.

Amen.
