We praise Thee, O God, that Thou art! When we are weary, Thou dost give us rest. When we are sick, Thou art near to comfort and sustain us. When moments of gloom engulf us, Thou dost shine through the dark. When the burdens of life seem too heavy for our carrying, Thou art strong. Thou dost take to Thyself our weakness and our sin. Touched with a live coal from Thy altar, our lives are cleansed and free.
We praise Thee, O God, that Thou art. We would live ever in Thy presence. But sometimes we do not find Thee near. If our sin hides Thee, save and deliver us. If our dullness of sight hides Thee, lift the scales from our eyes. If through pain and weakness of the flesh our spirits faint, help us to find healing of body and strength of soul. Do with us as Thou wilt, but show us Thyself.
Keep us, O God, eager for Thee and open to Thee. But guard us from disturbing fretfulness if the vision of Thy presence fades. Help us to remember that we cannot live always on the mount of transfiguration to behold Thee white and dazzling in Thy glory. Though we cannot understand all Thy ways with men, we know that Thou art and that Thy love never fails. In that trust we would go on, content when the light is low to await Thy reappearing.
We praise, Thee, O God, that Thou art! Above all good gifts from Thy hand, give us Thyself. In Thy Son’s name we pray. Amen.
