Eternal Father, come to us in our prayer; come with just the touch of Thy Spirit that we need—to the young in their fresh vigor and lightness of heart, whose lives are yet unfixed; to those in mid-life, so busy, so absorbed in their affairs; to those bent with years, in whom the fire of life has cooled, and hope grows drowsy while they remember former years; and to every dreaming little child.
Come, we pray Thee, to those whose days are happy and whose hearts are comforted, that they may be grateful; to those who are encamped just now where the waters of life are bitter, that they may not lose heart; to those who suffer in secret an unshared sorrow, that they may not be lonely; to those who are irked by the humdrum of life, or hurt by its harshness, that they may be refreshed.
Come, we beseech Thee, to the prisoner in his cell; to those on beds of pain which make the nights long; to those who wait in dull ache of heart for those who return no more; to those who are adrift and alone, and have no one to pray for them; to men and women seeking to make good will prevail.
Come, Thou Guide and Deliverer of mankind, with Thy mercy to our troubled world, divided against itself and astray from Thee; and come with new power for unity, service, and love to Thy church of every name and rite. Come to us in the cleansing of our hearts and the deepening of our faith. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
